“To those who ‘care a lot about me’, I tell them too to calm down as I’m fine and free,” said the former president of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc. The message was posted on Facebook after the president of the Our Party Renato Usatyi said that the former Democratic leader was arrested in the U.S., IPN reports.

“I regret that some make a show and resort to fake news so as to achieve different goals, including to increase their audience and the number of likes. But I urge them to take care about them and to use their energy to solve people’s problems. I thank once again all those who really cared about me. But I assure them that they have no reason to be worried. That’s why I decided to react to these falsehoods. But I will not do it every time different personages disseminate untruths about me. I will tell you myself about the changes in my life,” Vlad Plahotniuc said in his message on Facebook.

Last yearend, the National Anticorruption Center made approaches to the authorities in the U.S., Romania and the UK, asking to look for the former leader of the Democratic Party Vladimir Plahotniuc on their territories, including under the name of Vladislav Novak, which is his second identity in Moldova. On January 13, the U.S. designated Plahotniuc publicly due to involvement in significant corruption and he is thus ineligible for visas to the United States. At the beginning of this February, former Democratic MP Andrian Candu confirmed that Vladimir Plahotniuc was in the U.S.
