The first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party (PDM) Vlad Plahotniuc considers that an electoral bloc on the pro-European segment would have disadvantaged the PDM, but would have advantaged the pro-European coalition and this option should have been analyzed more seriously before the parliamentary elections. He made such statements in an interview published on unimedia.md, being quoted by IPN.
Vlad Plahotniuc answered so when he was asked if he does not regret that the pro-European parties didn’t form an electoral bloc. “If I think about the PDM, I do not regret. Going separately in the elections is an advantage for us and this is evident in our evolution during the campaign. If I think about the general score of the pro-European parties, the possibility of creating such a bloc should have been considered more thoroughly so that we didn’t face the risks we face now and could more clearly show the existence of the two projects - the pro-European one and the project of the left parties. I refer especially to the extremist parties, whose project leads nowhere,” he stated.
Vlad Plahotniuc noted that the option of creating the electoral bloc appeared as a result of an analysis of the existing materials made at the beginning of this year. “I had an analysis showing the mathematic situation we have today even in January. It was carried out by sociologists and communication specialists. Based on this analysis, I reached the conclusion that the pro-European parties should better take part in the elections in a bloc. Some hurried to criticize me, saying I was afraid that the PDM would not enter Parliament. Today they see that they weren’t right. The truth is that the subject of an electoral bloc wasn’t discussed seriously. A lot of things can be discussed here, but it is already a subject of the past and we should not open the parenthesis. The pro-European parties must now separately gain as many votes as possible so that we can govern together afterward,” he said.
The first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party also said that after the elections the PDM will form an alliance only with the pro-European parties, not yet with the Party of Communists (PCRM). “If we had wanted to form an alliance with the PCRM, this alliance would have existed. Since 2009, the PDM has formed three alliances with the pro-European parties. We now must make effort to gather as many votes as possible so as to hold a majority of seats. The PDM’s political project for the elections was based namely on the idea of a pro-European government,” he stated.
