The lawyers for ex-Premier Vlad Filat appealed the February 17 decision of the Buiucani Court by which the request to release their client on bail was rejected. The defense considers the Court’s decision is illegal, groundless and abusive, IPN reports.

In a press release, the lawyers say that at the previous hearing they asked that the form of detention should be replaced by release on bail. However, for unknown reasons, the court erroneously pronounced on another request – to annul the detention form.

The former Premier’s lawyers consider this shows how superficially this case is examined and makes them believe that the defense’s arguments weren’t taken into consideration. The appeal is to be examined on February 24, at 11am.

In the February 17 hearing, Vlad Filat’s lawyers asked that their client be allowed to go free on bail. After several hours of deliberations, the judges of the Buiucani Court rejected the defense’s appeal.
