The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) wants the Liberal Party (PL) to form part of the government and hopes that a PLDM-PDM-P coalition will be ultimately formed.  The leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat made such statements in the program “Good evening” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

Filat said the PLDM made everything possible for a majority pro-European alliance to be formed, but they met with stubbornness and a selfish approach to the principles based on which the coalition was to be formed on the part of the PL, especially of Mihai Ghimpu. “I didn’t think that one can blow up a country and destroy a coalition because of a ministry,” he stated.

The Liberal-Democratic leader also said that despite the disagreements they had with the PL in the negotiations, he banks on a better communication with the Liberal MPs, especially when laws to ensure the reformation and European integration process will need to be adopted. “In fact, we had a minority government earlier too, even if a parliamentary majority existed on paper. Real wars were fought in order to pass particular laws. By their votes, the Communists show that they have interests similar to ours. The Party of Communists is no longer a threat. A danger is posed by the Party of Socialists that represents and propagates the interests of another state. However, I want the Liberals, not the Communists to influence things,” stated Vlad Filat.

According to the chairman of the PLDM, the PL may come to power after the local elections. “It’s not excluded that the PL chose to remain in the opposition in order to win the mayoral elections in Chisinau. It’s a pity that they didn’t understand that they can achieve this goal by being in power and by assuming governance in difficult conditions for the country,” he said.

Speaking about the defection of former Premier Iurie Leanca from the PLDM, Vlad Filat said he regrets his leaving as it is a loss for him personally and for the whole party.
