The chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat said he regrets Chiril Gaburici’s decision to resign from the post of Premier. In a press briefing on June 12, the politician said discussions will be soon opened on the formation of a new government coalition, IPN reports.
“It is a regrettable decision given the current situation in Moldova. At the same time, it is a normal decision in the wake of the latest reports concerning Gaburici’s studies. I think this is a courageous and respectable step. I thank him and his team for the work they did in a very difficult period. Many good things were done in this period,” stated Vlad Filat.
According to him, it is now the duty of the political class to swiftly identity solutions and to ensure efficient governance in Moldova. “I had discussions with President Nicolae Timofti and with the leader of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu. I wil contact Mihai Ghimpu and all those who want Moldova to continue on its path of European integration. We want a clear, stable majority in Parliament, which would provide full support to the new Government,” he stated.
The Liberal-Democratic leader called on the people to be clam and responsible. “I understand that many persons are happy now, but they should stay calm and focus on their business. I call on the people to responsibly vote for persons who have the ability to manage a mayor’s office in this Sunday’s elections. The persons and parties that promote separatism and foreign interests should be penalized,” stated Vlad Filat.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici tendered his resignation, saying he wants to avoid suspicions that he influenced the investigation into the authenticity of his diploma. He called upon the ruling parties to re-form the government coalition.
