Former Prime Minister Vlad Filat, who was recently sentenced to nine years behind bars, said the truth cannot be hidden long and this will be discovered sooner or later. The Kroll report and other international investigations will contribute to this. The ex-Premier presumes that the truth will come out after the presidential elections, IPN reports.

In an interview given through his lawyer to the online edition of Komsomolskaya Pravda in Moldova, Vlad Filat says the power realizes that the truth can generate the fury of the people, who will oust the current government. For the truth to be found out, it is important to increase the role of civil society, which cannot be manipulated and bought.

Vlad Filat noted that if he had been Prime Minister in 2014, the ‘theft of the century’ wouldn’t have been committed. The state institutions, namely the National Bank of Moldova, and the Prime Minister and Speaker of Parliament bear direct responsibility for what happened.

Asked about his property that was confiscated, the ex-Premier said these possessions were purchased in 1994. He is convinced that he will regain this property through the ECHR. He will struggle to prove his innocence even if this is very difficult in the current conditions in Moldova.

On June 27 this year, Vlad Filat, who held the post of Prime Minister in 2009-2013, got nine years in jail for influence peddling and passive corruption. The sentenced was passed by the primary court after eight months of remand detention. Vlad Filat was arrested following bribe  to the ex-Premier for particular services.
