Vlad Filat seeks proofs that he met with Vladimir Voronin in secret

Prime Minister Vlad Filat has demanded substantiating the press reports that he had a secret meeting with the leader of the PCRM Vladimir Voronin, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Such statements are aimed at manipulating the people. Therefore, I demand publicly that the newspaper provide evidence. The media outlets, even if they support the Democratic Party, must substantiate the disseminated information, not make speculations,” said the Premier. “I already said what I intended to say,” Vlad Filat answered when asked by the journalists if such a meeting took place. On August 19, a Chisinau daily reported that Vlad Filat met with Vladimir Voronin in secret in order to discuss how Moldova will be governed in continuation. Sources of the newspaper said the meeting was held at Vladimir Voronin’s villa in Tiganca on August 14. According to the paper, Voronin assured Filat that the Communist parliamentary group will support his candidacy for the presidency so that he is elected in accordance with the current Constitution. During the four-year tenure of Filat, the Constitution will be amended so that it allows for the direct election of the head of state. Vlad Filat told Vladimir Voronin he was ready to discuss and reach a compromise with the PCRM as regards reshuffling in the administration of the Government and Parliament and other state institutions, but only after he was elected President.
