Russia will become directly involved in the parliamentary elections in Moldova and will support particular parties or political players, the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat said in the program “After 20 Years” on ProTV Bucuresti channel, IPN reports.
“The elections this year won’t be between parties, but between future development models. Russia’s involvement will be considerable. There are many politicians and parties that are now supported by Russia. Pressure was exerted on MPs. They were offered very large sums of money for leaving the government coalition. The involvement of the Russian media in Moldova’s media space will be even more aggressive than now,” stated Vlad Filat.
He added that there are a lot of challenges and the period is now more difficult than ever. “But we will make the Europe integration process in Moldova irreversible. If the pro-European parties lose the elections, this will be the most serious danger to our country. The winning of the elections by the Communists will mean stagnation,” said the Liberal-Democratic leader.
The politician considers that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to have more influence in the region and does not hide that he wants the Soviet Union to be rebuilt. “These wishes probably derive from very great vainglory,” said Vlad Filat.
He also said that Putin’s actions are planned beforehand, but history showed that such plans do not have a long-term impact and they will have an opposite effect on those who take them.
