The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat said the Moldovan authorities wonder whether the referendum on the association with the EU is asked by the Communists or by Moscow. If the Communists put forward an initiative to this effect in Parliament, it will be simply rejected. The Liberal-Democratic leader made such statements in a program on the Romanian channel TVR 1, IPN reports.

“Such an initiative will not be accepted by Parliament. In 2010, we committed ourselves to ensuring the country’s real European course. This year, we will have special elections, not between parties, but between development models for the future,” stated Vlad Filat.

He noted that theoretically the elections can be won by the Communists, who will denounce the Association Agreement with the EU. “We aim to make the European integration process irreversible. The Communists will not win the elections. We beat them once in more difficult conditions and will beat them again now,” said Vlad Filat

Recently, the Communist parliamentary group demanded that President Nicolae Timofti within two weeks should initiate a referendum where the people would be asked if they want the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU to be signed. The accord is to be signed in Brussels on June 27.
