Moldova is a European country that must move on fast so as to ensure functional institutions and welfare for the people, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat said in an interview for Radio Free Europe, IPN reports.
“This process is a natural and categorically irreversible one,” said Vlad Filat. According to him, the communication with the people about the European integration process must be intensified. “We will go to the Moldovan settlements and will tell the people about the advantages of the European integration for every person and for the country in general, based on conclusive evidence, not on lies and speculations,” stated the former Prime Minister.
He underlined that in this year’s elections, the people will be able to say if they want Moldova to go towards the European Union. “We must be calm and continue to govern. I hope that we will finish an important stage in the process of coming closer to the EU at the end of May or the beginning of June: the liberalization of the visa regime for Moldovans,” said Vlad Filat, adding that the reforms must be continued so that the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement are signed by the end of August.
The Liberal-Democratic leader also said that the events in Ukraine are a tragedy for the Ukrainian people and for the whole human civilization. But this situation cannot stop Moldova from following the path to the EU. As to the relations with Russia, Vlad Filat stated that the national interest of Moldova is now to integrate into the European area of values and Russia should respect this interest.
