Moldova became more powerful after the November 30, 2014 elections, the leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat said in a news conference. He noted that the pro-European forces won the victory in unfavorable conditions created by the bans imposed by Russia, the pressure exerted on the Moldovan migrants in Russia and the manipulation by the Russian media in Moldova. Vlad Filat announced that the PLDM will form a coalition with the PDM and PL and that he already spoke with the leaders of the two parties Marian Lupu and Mihai Ghimpu, IPN reports.
“I think that as a result of these elections, we became more powerful as a country and as society of this state. I consider we passed a maturity test. Facing this serious challenge, I think both the political class and civil society understood better not only the people’s expectations, but also the country’s needs so that we can have a sustainable development, based on values,” stated Vlad Filat.
“In the immediate period, the major task of the whole political class is to maintain stability in the country so as not to allow provocations that could cause tensions in society and the deeper segregation of the people based on different criteria. It is very important for the pro-European parties to offer a clear answer to society in the near future, not only as regards intentions and statements, but also as concerns a firm commitment that a clear pro-European majority and a responsible government will be created, with people who are able to cope with the requirements of time.”
Vlad Filat reiterated that the PLDM will form a pro-European alliance with the PL and PDM, saying the formation of the new coalition must take place quicker given that the three parties have the experience of working together within the previous governments.
The Liberal-Democratic leader noted that the option of those who voted for the pro-Eastern parties must not be neglected and these voters should be provided with more information and explanations about the country’s European course so that they can make a really informed and responsible choice. As regards the surprising result of the PSRM, Vlad Filat said the result was achieved not by this party’s leader Igor Dodon, but rather by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.
