Vlad Filat may meet with Igor Smirnov on May 15

Prime Minister Vlad Filat is expected to have a meeting with the leader of the Transnistrian region Igor Smirnov on the sidelines of the hokey competition “Moldovan Premiere's Cup”. “I will meet with Smirnov or anyone else who can help resume the negotiations, on the basis of a well-defined agenda. We may have informal discussions at this sporting event,” Vlad Filat said in a program on the public TV channel “Moldova 1”, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Premier said that there is no suitable field for holding the competition in Moldova and thus it will take place in Tiraspol. “If I'm able to go to Tiraspol to attend the event, I may have a discussion with Igor Smirnov as we must confer on the interconnection of the fixed-line telephones, freight transportation by trains and other issues,” he stated. Vlad Filat has had two informal meetings with the Transnistrian leader until now, during football games. The competition “Moldovan Premiere's Cup” will take place on May 15. Two weeks ago, Igor Smirnov invited Vlad Filat to Tiraspol to discuss issues of major importance in the process of regulating the relations between Moldova and Transnistria. Vlad Filat told the reporters that he cannot pay an official visit in his own county and that he will meet with Igor Smirnov when there is a clear agenda aimed at reopening the official Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format.
