2014 is a very important year for Moldovan society because a number of actions, projects and reforms with real effect on the people are to be carried out this year, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat said in an interview for Radio Free Europe, quoted by IPN
The ex-Premier referred especially to the completion of the processes concerning the country’s European agenda, initiated earlier. “I refer first of all to the liberalization of the visa regime that is to take place by this summer. In this respect, we must work a lot and in concert, at all the levels. Secondly, by the end of summer, we must sign the Association Agreement, which includes the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, so that it is ratified in the first sittings of the Parliament’s autumn session. We must also finalize a series of important institutional reforms so as to bring about changes that the people will feel,” stated Vlad Filat.
According to him, this year Moldova will also have to show ability to use the resources, including the national development funds and the foreign financing. “More than 9 billion lei in investments will be allocated this year. On the one hand, it is good that these resources were identified. They represent the result of the work done in the last over 4 years. On the other hand, we bear huge responsibility for every allocated leu as we must make sure that these projects turn into modern infrastructure that will benefit the people. This means better roads, access to better health services, better schools, water of a high quality in the people’s homes, right to free movement. These are things that the people will see and feel this year,” said the Liberal-Democratic leader.
Vlad Filat also said that important changes are to be made to the legislation to strengthen the rights and responsibilities of the media in Moldova. “We cannot enter the EU if we do not have functional media. That’s why we must amend the Broadcasting Code and deal with the problems that appeared by sufficient regulations. We must ensure the freedom of the media, but also must make sure that the people are not manipulated and are not lied to through the media. If we want European regulations, they must be complex and guarantee the rights of both of the sides – of those who work in the media and of those who consume media products. I think we can ensure free media that inform objectively the Moldovan people. In the near future, we will identity solutions to the relevant problems,” said the chairman of the PLDM.
