The European Moldova is not the country that fights against Russia. On the contrary, it is a country with very good relations with all the states. Even if the current government didn’t manage to sufficiently inform the population of Moldova about the steps taken in the European integration process, the European course is irreversible, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat said in the program “Politics” on TV7 channel, IPN reports.

Vlad Filat said the integration into the EU is not aimed at damaging the relations with the neighboring states or at closing the Moldovan products’ access to the neighboring markets. Even if it chose the course to the EU, Moldova has free trade relations with the CIS states and this fact is not a hindrance in the European integration process. On the contrary, the access to a larger number of markets will enable to revitalize the national economy and to improve the living standards.

The leader of the PLDM stated he does not possess information about hundreds of Moldovans working in Russia being deported to Moldova following the progress made in coming closer to the EU. If this is true, it is interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state. Very good relations were built with Russia and these relations should not be influenced by particular feelings.

According to Vlad Filat, when the integration of Moldova into the EU is definitively decided, a national referendum will be held on the issue. But there is yet a lot of work to be done by then.

The Liberal-Democratic leader said the text of the Association Agreement with the EU, which is to be initialed at the EaP Summit in Vilnius, cannot be made public because of the confidentiality conditions. But, immediately after it is initialed, it will be published so that it is discussed. If society does not agree with its provisions, Moldova can decide not to sign the Association Agreement.
