Ex-Premier Vlad Filat, who was sentenced to nine years in jail for influence peddling and passive corruption, said he will continue to struggle to prove his innocence even if it is very hard and almost impossible when the justice system is politically controlled. He asks that at least at the Appeals Court the proceedings should be declared public, as the law provides, and to ensure his right to defense, with the presence of witnesses. Vlad Filat wrote this on a social networking site, IPN reports.

The politician calls on civil society and the people of good faith to also demand public court proceedings. “After all this show and after the humiliation to which I have been subject during these nine months, after they jailed me in order to destroy the PLDM and me as a political figure, after they destroyed my family, a question remains: where is the US$250 million? Where is the stolen billion?” wrote the former Prime Minister.

Vlad Filat also wrote that he was surprised by some of the politicians’ statements about his sentence. “I see that the ‘noble’ relative (Adrian Candu – e.n.) and the most important jurist of the country Mihai Ghimpu already passed an irrevocable judgment and divide my property in TV programs, even the house that I obtained legally many years ago. Don’t these individuals know about the presumption of innocence, the Appeals Court, the Supreme Court of Justice and the ECHR or they already know the final verdict written at Nobil Hotel, where they are often called to report?” asked the ex-Premier.

According to him, it seems that many other persons will be arrested after the arrest of the mayor of Orhei Ilan Shor. “’Your friends’ from the PD want to make me a scapegoat, but the people are not fools and understood the game. That’s why everything will yet occur. The election camping is approaching and many others, but not from their gang, will be sacrificed on the ‘altar of the fight against corruption’, while those who coordinated and are really responsible for the theft will ‘count’ the votes and the dividends of the stolen billion,” says the message.
