Prime Minister Vlad Filat, after the February 20 meeting of the Government, said that he expects more provocations besides the tapped telephone conversations that were made public. He does not rule out that his phones were tapped and this can happen to any ordinary person, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Vlad Filat said the situation is very serious and confirms the warnings he made on January 7, when he anticipated situations of conflict, blackmail and criminal cases. “I expect more provocations, but I will not yield up. The most serious thing is that the people are not safe. Those who now laugh should not do it as they can also become a victim. This shows that we have yet a lot of work to do to build the rule of law,” stated Vlad Filat.
Asked by the journalists if he indeed gave instructions to the head of the Main State Tax Inspectorate Nicolae Vicol over the phone as the recordings broadcast by the media revealed, he said he always intervenes when need be. “Those who resort to wiretapping can also resort to faking. I disapprove of such an approach. The political struggle should be based on political instruments and political actions,” he stated.
Vlad Filat also said he does not believe that the fact that Metal Feros was brought into focus immediately after the company issued a press release informing that the searches of the anticorruption officers coincided with the inspections carried out by tax inspectors at Metal Feros, where there were identified record frauds for Moldova, was a coincidence. The Premier said he several times informed the anticorruption center about the violations committed at this company, but nothing was done. According to Vlad Filat, a number of institutions will have to answer for the situation created at Metal Feros, including the Ministry of the Interior, the Prosecutor General’s Office, and the Security and Information Service.
