Vlad Filat: I did not know that Mister Godea wants to be mayor

The decision of the first vice president of the PLDM Mihai Godea to run as an independent candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau was a surprise for the party's president. “I did not know that Mister Godea wants to be a mayor,” said Prime Minister Vlad Filat, when asked by the reporters to comment on his party colleague's decision, Info-Prim Neo reports. The leader of the PLDM refrained from making other comments, saying the party's administration will examine the issue at a meeting on May 4 in the morning. Asked if the defection of two important members of the party practically in the same period of time (Alexandru Tanase and, possibly, Mihai Godea) represents a blow to the PLDM, Vlad Filat said the authority of a party is built over time and not by one or two persons but by the whole team. Mihai Godea said it wasn't easy for him to take the decision to run independently, but he cannot ignore the hopes of the thousands of people whom he met during the last years and whom he assured that their hopes are the PLDM's creed. He stressed that he wants to accuse nobody and aims only to act independently. Asked by the journalists if he intends to leave the PLDM, he said that he has not yet taken such a decision.
