The leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat considers certain progress has been made in the trilateral PLDM-PD-PL negotiations and a compromise will be ultimately reached, despite the  contradictions existing in the discussions. He made such a statement after a new round of talks on the formation of the government coalition, held in the evening of January 13, IPN reports.

The Liberal-Democratic leader said the negotiations will continue. “I cannot say that things are stagnant. There are disagreements, but we trust that the necessary compromise will be reached.  Our position on the distribution of the post of head of state is firm – this post cannot be offered to a party. The head of state must represent a balance for society and a guarantor of the Constitution,” he argued.

As to the discussions initiated with the PCRM, Vlad Filat noted that these are necessary. “We do not regard these discussions as talks on the creation of a parliamentary majority. It’s a pity that the Liberal Party didn’t take part in these discussions. But we must not forget that the President is to be elected in 2016 and we should take the necessary steps now,” he said.

Vlad Filat also said that he will ignore the insults to him made earlier by the chairman of the PCRM Vladimir Voronin and will also overlook some of his statements about the PCRM. “We cannot play with emotions now. We must take decisions. The country needs a government and we must assume responsibilities and take rather difficult decisions so as to ensure governance. We have to reach a reasonable compromise in the period of time left,” he stated.
