The lawyers for ex-Premier Vlad Filat announced that the politician went on hunger strike on November 30 in protest at the actions taken by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and the administration of Penitentiary No. 13. The decision to go on strike was taken following the inhuman and degrading treatment to which Vlad Filat is constantly subjected at Penitentiary No. 13, including because of Moldovan authorities’ efforts to limit his contact with the public, IPN reports.

In a press release, the lawyers say that in their last meetings with Vlad Filat, the MP complained that he is subject to intimidation, including through detainees of the penitentiary. He considers that the goal of such illegal actions is to demoralize him.

Earlier, the lawyers said that Vlad Filat is frequently transferred from one sell to another with no clear arguments being provided. The last time he was moved to a cell in the basement. Last weekend, Vlad Filat’s wife Angela Gonta published a fragment from her husband’s letter, where he says that he will make a will soon, in case something happens to him.
