As the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM), Vlad Filat considers that the party’s congress should be held in the nearest future, where the party’s program and statutes must be adjusted and decisions as to the party’s administration must be taken. On a social networking site, Vlad Filat says he will renounce the post of leader and his membership in the PLDM at this congress, IPN reports.

“The PLDM is for me like my child. I invested everything in this party, including my soul. I’m sure that history will show what role the PLDM played and will yet play. Until then, I can say that the PLDM made history. Regretfully, we weren’t attentive and became the victim of those who today keep Moldova hostage. It’s clear that all the blows and what happens to me have a well-defined goal – to destroy me and to ultimately destroy the PLDM,” wrote the politician.

Vlad Filat says he consciously decided to quit as leader of the PLDM and hopes that this decision will enable the PLDM to work efficiently, with a functional administration. ”Besides the part concerning the party, the main task is to agree with the real opposition to the current government - those who want to build a really European Moldova and to get rid of hypocrites of the type of Leanca, who is under full control - to field a common candidate for the presidential elections. These elections are crucial,” said the message.

The ex-Premier was deprived of parliamentary immunity and arrested on October 15, 2015. He is accused of traffic of influence and passive corruption and faces 7 to 15 years in jail and ban on holding public posts. Vlad Filat pleads not guilty.
