The chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova Vlad Filat received one of the highest state awards of Georgia – the Order of Excellence. The decree was signed by President Mikhail Saakashvili on November 1, at the end of his tenure, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the party.
The Oder of Excellence was awarded in gratitude for his remarkable contribution to developing and strengthening the bilateral relations between Georgia and Moldova. In the accompanying letter, Mikhail Saakashvili expresses his conviction that the cooperation relations between the two states will continue to develop in the name of progress and a better future for the peoples of Georgia and Moldova.
Vlad Filat said he was honored to receive such an award, especially before the Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit, which will mark an important stage in the European course of Moldova and Georgia. “The Moldovan-Georgian relations developed intensely over the last four years, Georgia being a friend and reliable partner of Moldova. I’m firmly convinced that the future of our countries is European,” he stated.
The award was handed over to Vlad Filat by the charge d’affaires of Georgia in Moldova Avtandil Mikatsadze. Vlad Filat also holds the Prize for Liberty, which was offered to him in June 2011 by the U.S. Atlantic Council.
