Prime Minister Vlad Filat and U.S. Ambassador to Moldova William Moser Monday rode 10 km of the 93 km Sarateni-Soroca road that will be rehabilitated within the Compact Program financed by the U.S. Government through the Millennium Challenge Corporation, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a communiqué from the Millennium Challenge Fund Moldova, the trip started at the Sarateni intersection, which will be modernized, and the itinerary included the road section that crosses the villages Codrul Nou, Tantareni and Negureni of Telenesti district.
The officials made the trip before the initiation of the woks set for June so as to compare the state of the road now and its condition after it is rehabilitated according to the international standards.
The three villages, as another ten situated along the Sarateni-Soroca road, will benefit from a series of improvements with social impact like the laying out of stations and crosswalks, illumination of the road in the crossed villages and construction of local roads that facilitate access from the given road to social facilities.
The repair works will last until the end of 2014.
The Sarateni-Soroca road section forms part of the national road M2 that connects Moldova and Ukraine. This section is used by about 300,000 persons from over 70 settlements. It is now in a bad state and about 60% of it must be fully repaired.
The US$130 million road rehabilitation project of the Compact envisions the reconstruction of roads, surveillance of the construction, making of feasibility studies and other related activities.
