The Government reports that reforms are done, the start-up procedures are simplified and the inspections were cancelled for three months, but the businessmen feel that things do not stand well enough. They say one thing and do another one and what is decided is not implemented, journalist and commentator on economic issues Vlad Bercu said in an interview for Radio Free Europe. According to him, the Government’s intentions could be indeed good, but the authorities of the second or third level, with which the entrepreneurs contact, do not implement the laws and thus things go bad, IPN reports.

“As to investments, it should be noted that their level remains at a constant level. This shows that the companies do not want to develop the business. The environment seems unfriendly to these companies and they do not want to make investments. I would like to make reference to a statement by the director of the Balti Free Economic Zone, who recently said that the Republic of Moldova fails to benefit from at least €50 million a year owing to the corrupt and incompetent government,” said the economic commentator.

Vlad Bercu noted that the Government’s declared intention to change things inspires optimism. “In each meeting of the Cabinet, they take decisions that refer to businessmen, including small and medium-sized enterprises, simplification of start-up procedures and others. But the major problem we witnessed during the last 20-25 years remained – the say one thing, but do another thing. The legislation is poorly implemented and this is the biggest problem that discourages the businessmen,” stated the expert.

The France – Moldova Chamber of Trade and Industry, the public association “Moldovan-German Economic Cooperation” and Magenta Consulting on March 22 presented the Business Barometer for the fourth quarter of 2015. The study shows there was a general downward trend in business the previous quarter, regardless of the type of company - national or foreign - and this reached the lowest level since June 2015. Also, the business climate indicator in Moldova reached the worst level ever.
