A PR event for the ruling party and President Maia Sandu before the European Political Community Summit that will take place in Chisinau on June 1. This is how Socialist heavyweight Vlad Batrîncea commented on Maia Sandu’s decision to convene a National Assembly called “European Moldova” to show the Moldovans’ support for the European course of the country. The Deputy Speaker of Parliament said that it is unacceptable for the ruling party to use the administrative resource to gain political advantages, IPN reports.
The Socialist heavyweight noted that the Party of Socialists will not take part in the event that will be staged in the Great National Assembly Square on May 21. The government intends to use the administrative resource to polish the image of the President.
“Maia Sandu has the necessary instruments to show to the citizens that she and the government are good. What should the Great National Assembly be convened for? We consider such a measure is not needed as Maia Sandu possesses everything that is necessary for the domestic and foreign policy of the state. It is PR before the summit. How can this National Assembly be held under the state of emergency that was instituted by the PAS government? Amidst a war in Ukraine, to which reference is made 24 hours of 24. When we experience so many social and economic problems, we gather together the whole county to show that Maia Sandu enjoys the people’s support. This measure does not have any legal significance,” Vlad Batrîncea stated in the program “Reflection Points” on Vocea Basarabiei channel.
He noted that the coming close to the EU should be felt by the citizens by European salaries and pensions, by democracy and pluralism, by the independence of judges and the wellbeing of people, not by populist meetings.
“Similar events were staged by Vlad Filat. Today we have signals from districts about the intention to bring doctors, teachers, mayors. Transport will be organized. Using the administrative resource, people will be brought to Chisinau to amass audience for Maia Sandu. If a Great National Assembly is to be staged, why should public servants from the central administration organize the citizens with the assistance of transport and lists? The Great National Assembly should be a freely expressed wish of the citizens,” said the Deputy Speaker.
After President Maia Sandu announced the convocation of the National Assembly “European Moldova”, representatives of a number of political parties expressed their readiness to take part in the event. In her speech, the official said that she will start consultations with the pro-European political forces, the academia and notable personalities of Moldova to discuss the planned event in detail.
