The directors of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (NAER) should resign and this institution should be liquidated. The Agency promotes the interests of the government and oil companies, not of the citizens, the executive secretary of the Party of Socialists Vlad Batrîncea, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, said in a protest against the increase in prices of public utilities on Friday, IPN reports.

Vlad Batrîncea noted that the people are not to blame for the fact that the government cannot ensure high-quality energy resources for the country. Consequently, the Government should resign. “The NAER should collect the necessary funds not from budgets funds, but from transfers from energy companies as these companies earn revenues at the expense of consumers of services, which is of the entire population,” said the official, being quoted in a press release of the PSRM.

The organizers of the event said the protests against the rise in charges and against the government’s anti-popular policies will continue.

The National Agency for Energy Regulation on Wednesday approved higher electricity charges. The households from central and southern Moldova powered by Premier Energy from November 4 will pay 4.77 lei/kWh of power, as opposed to 3.15 lei/kWh until now.
