Moldova is an object of the geopolitical games, not yet a subject of these. The geopolitical players are the states that can pursue an independent economic policy and can thus influence the foreign policy. Today the West will not allow Moldova to pursue a foreign economic policy and strengthening its neutrality is the only thing that Moldova can do in this case, Socialist MP Vlad Batrancea stated in a public debate entitled “Geopolitical genes” of Moldovans: between myth and reality”. The debate was organized by IPN News Agency and Radio Moldova.
The Socialist MP said that Moldova should find its place in the geopolitical world based on the mental characteristics of its people, the economic characteristics, religion or culture. “Regrettably, we do not have a national policy. The people do not influence politics in Parliament. There is a parliamentary majority that wasn’t elected by the people. When more than a million Moldovans are abroad, who takes part in elections and who pursues a national policy? The models that they try now to impose on us are not adjusted to society because the geopolitical players realize that the people can react not as they want,” stated Vlad Batrancea.
Replying to the IPN project’s standing expert Igor Botan, who said that the Republic of Moldova oscillates between two tectonic plates - the European one and the Eurasian one, the Socialist MP said there are indeed these two big policies that, regrettably, do not have purely national roots and often do not reflect the national, economic and political interests of the Republic of Moldova, but represent broader international formulas. “Moldova’s involvement in a formula imposed from outside often determines the internal political processes,” stated Vlad Batrancea.
According to him, when someone is trying to use information technologies and censorship and to intervene in neutrality, society divides into two. Moldova should keep its neutrality and should serve as a bridge between two civilizations and should not allow someone to impose a geopolitical agenda on it.
Vlad Batrancea noted that to grow and develop in a geopolitical framework, the ordinary people should clearly set their goals, with the development of the identity being one of these and with the diaspora playing a very important role in this process. “More than one million active Moldovans work abroad in other economic spheres, in foreign social models and achieved results there. These should be included in the sociopolitical life of the country through elections. The path to economic and identity development involves the participation of the diaspora. Maybe by using their potential, we will create those conditions here and these will enable them to return home in a period,” stated the Socialist MP.
The public debate “Geopolitical genes” of Moldovans: between myth and reality” is the 73rd installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are staged with financial support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation of Germany.
