The reorganization of the state-run company “Moldova’s Post Office” bothers particular persons who left the comfort zone and have to work and thus disseminate false information and attack the company’s director, acting director general Vitalie Zaharia stated in a news conference at IPN on March 19.

The company’s acting director general noted the accusations made against “Moldova’s Post Office” and against him should be substantiated. “Moldova’s Post Office” is not affiliated and does not become involved in politics. It only steps up efforts so that it remains the national operator, near the people. We realize very well that all these beneficial changes and processes that were started worry particular persons, including from the company, who were removed from the comfort zone and made to work. Particular forces from outside are also bothered as they probably were stripped of particular schemes together with my appointment and they want to see the company weakened and inefficient. Only by multiple, beneficial results for the employees, the company, we will manage to change the work conditions, to increase the salaries, to modernize the postal technologies and to change the customers’ and everyone’s perception of “Moldova’s Post Office”,” stated Vitalie Zaharia.

As to the accusations about the losses sustained by the company in 2020, Vitalie Zaharia said these were caused by the pandemic, which led to a halt in postal exchanges with all the member states of the Universal Postal Union, including with China and Singapore, which have the biggest share in this circuit. “The international exchange of mail and the provision of services are the company’s main sources of income. These declined considerably in 2020, by 30% on 2019 or by 120 million lei. The international circuit was restored, including with China, and the online platforms will become accessible in the nearest future. The largest part of the incurred costs, of 85% or 320 million lei, are costs associated with the payment of salaries that remained at the same level in 2020 and now too,” said the director.

As to the purchases of goods made in 2020, Vitalie Zaharia said the budget of 45 million lei planned for the purpose was 18% executed, which is only 8.2 million lei was spent. A large part of this money went to buy supplies needed in the fight against the pandemic, for protecting over 5,000 employees and more than 1.5 million customers served monthly. In the period, the staff units weren’t increased, as they rumor. The employees weren’t intimidated and pressed.

Vitalie Zaharia denied the accusations made by the director of the Bălți Postal Center Vasile Guțu in a news conference on January 13 this year. “In 2020, there were conducted a number of inquiries into the deviations committed in the management of the company’s assets with the involvement of Vasile Guțu. These inquiries revealed serious violations that caused considerable damage to the company. By that news conference, Vasile Guțu tried to distract attention from the serious deviations committed by him. Moreover, Vasile Guțu tried to hamper the investigations by illegally staging protests and strikes,” said the director.

As to the reports that steps are being taken to make “Moldova’s Post Office” bankrupt, Vitalie Zaharia said the company’s managers do not have such intentions. “We have the economic analysis of the positive tendencies witnessed so far this year. There was worked out the action plan for remedying the economic and financial situation and we are close to introducing the digital currency and digital trade. There were launched a number of partnerships that generate savings and sources for developing the company. The aforementioned can be proven,” said the acting director of “Moldova’s Post Office”.
