The political parties already entered the election campaign event if this is not said openly. The activities performed by parties are aimed at the year 2018, spokesman for the Democratic Party (PDM) Vitalie Gamurari said in the public debate “Starting position of political parties and eventual independent candidates on official pro-European platform before an electoral year”, which was the 84th installment of the series “Developing political culture by public debates”, organized by IPN News Agency.

Vitalie Gamurari noted that the PDM in the election campaign goes with palpable results, without making populist statements, as it knows well the position of the opposition parties that have a common message against it and against the actions taken by the party only in people’s interests.

According to him, the party wants the geopolitical message in the immediate period to be minimized. The PDM does not want to divide society by messages related to the geopolitical course. On the contrary, it wants to come with a message based on real data about the implementation of the good European practices, openness of the EU market to Moldova. Moldova’s European integration should not be regarded as something that runs counter to Russia’s interest.

In the same connection, the spokesman said the PDM in the election campaign of 2018 will go alongside any party that supports Moldova’s European integration and is open to a dialogue, including with pro-European extraparliamentary parties that earlier said they will not form an alliance with the PDM. The national interest should prevail over party interests and in the future election campaign the deontological norms should be respected, but this is rather hard in the Moldovan realities.

Replying to the reactions of some parties that earlier intensely promoted the switchover to the uninominal or mixed-member system and now say that this system encourages the oligarchic system, Vitalie Gamurari said the oligarchic system exists within the proportional representation system too. “The mixed system enables us to apply one of the main concepts used in the development of the European Union, which is competition,” he stated, noting the criticism at this system is leveled by parties that do not have worthy contenders in constituencies.

Vitalie Gamurari also said that nobody can guarantee that no mistakes will be made in the future elections, but the PDM wants everything to take place in the most transparent way. He noted there is a risk that what the PDM set as goals initially would not be achieved as there was one year and a half until the elections, the Republic of Moldova faced and continues to face difficult problems, there is a regional crisis and the confidence of the development partners was lost. “It is very hard when you are in power and try to implement particular reforms, while someone, who should actually become a partner when the national interests need to be defended, slanders you and not at national level only, but also at international one,” he stated.

In another development, the spokesman for the PDM said the recent Brussels Summit showed that the government of Moldova achieved particular results and is pragmatic. The PDM in the election campaign goes with concrete, palpable results, without making populist statements, as the position of the opposition forces, of the right or of the left, is clear.

The public debate “Starting position of political parties and eventual independent candidates on official pro-European platform before an electoral year” was the 84th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are organized with the assistance of Germany’s Hanns Seidel Foundation. This is the fourth and last debate of the mini-series of debates staged by IPN the past few days, which involved representatives of parties from four main political platforms.
