Vitalie Balan was named deputy mayor of Balti municipality. He will take up his duties on Wednesday, March 19, as mayor Alexander Petkov announced, quoted by IPN.
"Vitalie Balan is appointed deputy mayor responsible for the administration of municipal property, land relations, architecture and construction, public amenities," said Alexandr Petkov.
According to the mayor of Balti, the ordinance will be brought to the attention of the Municipal Council, according to the Law on Local Public Administration.
Earlier, the Balti Municipal Council rejected the candidacy of Vitalie Balan for the position of deputy mayor at two extraordinary meetings.
Vitalie Balan has over 25 years of professional experience. He is a lawyer by profession, a graduate of "Alecu Russo" State University of Balti, where he obtained bachelor's and master's degrees. Previously, he worked in the private sector, and since 2011 he headed the Legal Department of the Balti mayor’s offoice.
For over a year, the groups of the PAS and the PSRM and the councilors of the group of ex-mayor Nicolai Grigorisin in the Balti Municipal Council ignored the invitation of mayor Alexandr Petkov to put forward candidates for the position of deputy mayor.
Under the legislation, if a candidacy is rejected twice in a row or the relevant issue is not included on the agenda, the mayor has the right to appoint the deputy mayor by ordinance, without the vote of the council.
