Many of the participants in the presidential elections go to vote because they count more on the future parliamentary elections and this is a good exercise to see the state of spirit in society, said the head of the National Liberal Party Vitalia Pavlichenko, who is an aspirant for the office of President. The politician considers the election outcome will be disappointing. If a President who does not exert pressure is chosen, the disappointment will be greater. The opinions were stated in the public debate “Specific features of the presidential elections 2016: vision of aspirants and candidates for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova”, which forms part of the series of electoral public debates “What kind of President is society looking for? What society does the President need?” that are organized by IPN News Agency.

Vitalia Pavlichenko said these elections have a series of specific features and these are not all positive. First of all, the elections take place amid complete social disappointment and voters want a President who will solve all the existing problems, but this is impossible and society will shortly feel bitterly disappointed.

According to the politician, if the representatives of the current government go from home to home, they will see the real situation and the people will not even allow them to enter their homes. “The people were forced to bring signatures by pressure exerted at the workplace. The administrative parties collect by pressure. Those who do not want to use these methods go from home to home,” she stated.

Vitalia Pavlichenko called on the voters not to have great expectations of the future President and to better not go to vote if they do not want to become disappointed. “There is great disappointment among the population, but, paradoxically, the people do not know what the President must do and regard this as a tribe head or kolkhoz chief,” she stated.

The politician considers the people will not go to vote because they are disappointed. But many of the potential independent candidates use the signature collection mechanism as a possibility of meeting with the people so as to make them angry and furious because this process is unfair. “Disappointment is the general state of society. There are no serious public debates about what kind of Government and President we need and what chances we have to become integrated into the EU, while disappointment is endemic,” she said.

The September 27 public debate is the 62nd installment of the series of public debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are staged by IPN with the support of the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
