The disappointment witnessed since 2009 led to the polarization of society. In the period, the people’s support for the European course has declined, that for the Eurasian course persists, while that for the unionist course could equal the support for pro-European course in time, Vitalia Pavlichenco, chairwoman of the National Liberal Party (PNL), said in the public debate “Starting positions of political parties and potential independent candidates on unionist platform before an electoral year”, which was the 82nd installment of the series “Developing political culture by public debates”, staged by IPN News Agency.

Vitalia Pavlichenco noted that several years ago the unionist platform hadn’t been taken into account much. The PNL in time managed to institutionalize the unionist current in a legal way so that this segment imposed itself, grew and started to be regarded by analysts as a political option among the citizens. “We can say that since 2007 until now, the unionists obtained more courage to publicly express their option and the people’s support for this segment increased,” she stated.

The politician said the PNL is ready to have a dialog with any unionist or pro-European party and the entities that separated themselves from the Liberal Party should think if they can return to a discussion. “What happened in the referendum on the dismissal of the mayor of Chisinau clearly showed that the right was united, while the radical left was beaten. We should also cooperate with Dodon and with the PDM, but we will do it better if we are united,” stated Vitalia Pavlichenco.

She also said that the unionist parties should together promote concrete ideas, platforms and programs and namely these parties are obligated to cultivate the electorate. “It is very important to realize the special situation in which we are now, with a Socialist President and a corrupt government that surely can and does work successfully to promote the own interests. We should understand that no one imposes anything on someone. We are forced by society that realizes very well which is the stake of the future elections. The dialogue can be the start of a union for the future of the citizens, not yet of this state, which should help us obtain and achieve the reunion,” noted the leader of the PNL.

In another development, Vitalia Pavlichenco said the current National Liberal Party of Romania, to the regret of the unionists from the Republic of Moldova, is rather Europeanist, while the National-Liberals from Moldova are ready to unite and defeat the radical left and the corrupt power.

The public debate “Starting position of political parties and potential independent candidates on unionist platform before an electoral year” is the 82nd installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are organized with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation of Germany.

The next debate entitled “Starting position of political parties and potential independent candidates before an electoral year” will take place in the conference hall of IPN News Agency on November 27, starting at 2pm. This will involve representatives of the Eurasian dimension of the political landscape.
