The civic initiative group “For Justice” and the National Blood Transfusion Center encouraged the visitors to a mall in Chisinau to donate blood. In half an hour, about 20 volunteers donated blood in the improvised transfusion center.
Silvia Rosca, vice director of the National Blood Transfusion Center, told Info-Prim Neo that the event's goal was to promote and advertise the practice. “We decided to place mobile teams here in order to change the donors' view, to move outside medical institutions”, she explained.
Volunteers who wanted to donate blood had to be aged between 18 and 60 and at least 50 kg of weight. They passed a brief medical exam to see whether they can be blood donors.
“After donating, people receive a food pack which restores their lost calories: condensed milk, juice, chocolate, fish cans, etc. They also get a certificate that can be presented at their job and ask for 2 free days: the day when they donated and the following one”, said Silvia Rosca.
Valentin Purice, member of the civic initiative group “For Justice”, added that the event should encourage young people to involve themselves in charity acts. After Chisinau, the campaign will continue in other districts.
According to the World Health Organization statistics, one of three persons needs a blood transfusion during his or her lifetime.
