The Visegrád Group Film Festival dedicated to Europe Day in Moldova was opened at the Free International University of Moldova (ULIM) on April 24 with the Czech picture “The Greatest of the Czechs”, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The Greatest of the Czechs” was made in 2010 under the direction of the Czech scriptwriter Robert Sedlacek. It is a bitter comedy about the joy of work and a person who must overcome major obstacles. The main character is a misanthropic, slightly neurotic filmmaker who did not manage to get money for making a movie about politics. He was offered to make another picture in cooperation with an assistant who does not speak much, but does everything, and with a cameraman who drinks far too much.
Attending the opening of the festival, Czech Ambassador to Moldova Jaromir Kvapil said that Europe Day is a holiday through which they should promote cultural exchanges between the European countries. The festival aims to familiarize the Moldovan students and professors with the traditional and spiritual particularities of the European states.
The festival continues on April 25 with the Hungarian picture “Eastern Wind”, directed by Szomjas Gyorgy. It will be screened at ULIM starting at 17.30. Entrance is free of charge. The Polish movie “Beats of Freedom” will be shown on April 26. The festival closes on April 27 with the Slovakian picture “Return of the Storks”.
The Visegrád Group or V4 is a cooperation organization consisting of four Central European states – the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary.
This year, Europe Day in Moldova will be celebrated in Chisinau and Comrat on May 12-19.
