Effective March 1, the activity of the Consular Office “Airport” will be suspended, Info-Prim Neo reports. Thus, all foreign citizens requiring entry-exit or transit visas for Moldova will need to apply for them exclusively at Moldova’s diplomatic and consular missions established abroad. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Constantin Burghiu, vice director of the Moldovan MFA’s department for consular affairs, explained that the Consular Office “Airport” will be closed in line with MFA’s process of changing procedures of issuing entry-exit visas for Moldova at border checkpoints, launched in 2007. At the same time, Constantin Burghiu mentioned that short-stay and transit visas will still be issued at the Chisinau International Airport in exceptional cases only, for instance related to natural disasters or in case of death of close relatives. Until March 1, Turkish citizens will be able to get tourist visas for Moldova at the Chisinau International Airport for a period of up to 30 days, as an exception, on the basis of the principle of reciprocity. The citizens of the EU member states, CIS member states (except for Turkmenistan), Canada, Japan, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and the United States do not need visas to enter Moldova.
