The chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Viorel Morari, who was delegated by Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo to work at the Prosecutor General’s Office for a period, said the prosecutors are investigating the provision by the Government of state guarantees to the value of approximately 14 billion lei in 2014-2015 for covering the gap created as a result of the robbing of Banca de Economii, Banca Sociala and Unibank so as to determine the legality of such an act, IPN reports.

Viorel Morari said they are examining the activity of the special commission constituted by the Ministry of Finance to investigate the provision of state guarantees to the value of US$ 47 million. There are suspects in this case, but their names cannot be yet revealed.

The prosecutors are also probing the concession of the Chisinau International Airport to Avia Invest SRL in 2013 within the bank fraud case so as to verify the assertions of the former head of the National Anticorruption Center Viorel Chetraru, who said that sacks of money stolen from Banca de Economii were taken to the airport.

According to Viorel Morari, the bank fraud case includes the examination of such aspects as the new shareholders that joined Banca de Economii in 2011, Unibank in 2012, Banca Sociala in 2013, Banca de Economii’s debt of over 2 billion lei to Victoriabank and others.
