The Supreme Council of Prosecutors designated Viorel Morari, who is the chairman of the Prosecutors Qualification Board, as the winners of the contest to fill the vacancy of head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office on April 22, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the new anticorruption prosecutor is 38. He started work in the prosecution service in 2002 and held a number of posts at the Donduseni Prosecutor’s Office and the Prosecutor General’s Office. Between June 2012 and January 2013, he held the post of anticorruption prosecutor on an interim basis.
Representatives of international organizations were invited as observers to the contest so as to ensure maximum transparency and choose the best candidate for this post, but some of these avoided to accept the invitation.
Also today, the Supreme Council of Prosecutors proposed naming prosecutor Eduard Florea as prosecutor of Ungheni district for a second term, while Alexandru Rata was suggested for the post of prosecutor of Straseni district. The winners were selected at a contest that consisted of several stages, including as a result of a rigorous examination by the Security and Intelligence Service. Based on the new law on the prosecution service, the Council asked the applicants to present a strategic program for developing the institution that they will manage during the next five years.
The edited decisions will be submitted to the acting prosecutor general who will endorse the appointments or can reject the candidates that he will consider unsuitable.
