The suspended chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Viorel Morari said Deputy Prosecutor General Ruslan Popov has direct contact with politicians. Moreover, the prosecutor general of Moldova is guided by the deputy prosecutor general who receives instructions from the government, IPN reports.
“Stoianoglo is incompetent or is simply guided from behind by his superb deputy Popov. By the way, Mister Stoianoglo, I advise you: be very attentive to the acts of your deputy Popov. I think you will soon ascertain particular discrepancies between what is said and what is done. You declared double standards and Popov follows your example. Moreover, he has particular interaction with politicians. I cannot say about Stoianoglo, but Popov has direct interaction with the political class and receives particular instructions from the government,” Viorel Morari stated in the talk show “Shadow Cabinet” on Jurnal TV channel.
Viorel Morari also spoke about ex-mayor of Orhei Ilan Shor, reminding of the public appearance where this presented a black bag and said that President Igor Dodon benefitted from €1.5 million.
“I’m in a serious dilemma and will explain why. The case is being investigated. A criminal case was started then over passive corruption in extremely large amounts. Ilan Shor made statements and was questioned. The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office probed the press reports, but ultimately only Ilan Shor was questioned. He said that in 2013 – 2014, he transmitted €1.5 million to a high-ranking official, who is currently the President of the Republic of Moldova. This is what the witness in the case said. I don’t assert that this is true or not as evidence is needed. As he declared, he paid, under signature, for different flights for Dodon’s family and for functionary Dodon and these were accepted by Dodon when going on luxury trips that were probably paid for by his friends. Mister Dodon benefitted from flights, as the witness said.”
Viorel Morari is suspected of unjust enrichment and money laundering in considerable amounts with the use of his authority.
