The Republic of Moldova in autumn is to ratify the Convention concerning the elimination of violence and harassment in the world of work. A roadmap to this effect was drawn up by an initiative group constituted by the Platform of Women MPs of the 11th legislature together with state institutions, trade unions and civil society organizations, IPN reports.
“The representativeness of the initiative group is a tangible proof of the importance of ratifying this document and of the value of the durable force of the social dialogue we modeled. Convention 190 is a reference instrument. This is the first international labor standard that addresses violence and harassment in the workplace,” MP Angela Munteanu-Pojoga told a news conference.
Corina Ajder, secretary of state at the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, said that each fifth employed person in Moldova is subject to subtle forms of harassment in the workplace and 4 in 100 persons face serious forms of harassment. “I’m glad to be here today and to see such a broad consensus for improving this situation. To counteract this phenomenon, an increasing number of countries ratify the standards of Convention 190. For the Republic of Moldova, the ratification of this instrument can be very useful for creating a world of work based on dignity and respect for everyone,” noted Corina Ajder.
Nelea Rusu, the representative of the International Labor Organization, said the intention to ratify Convention 190 is an important step towards strengthening the measures to eradicate violence and harassment in the workplace. “The ILO presents its commitment to offer the necessary support through expertise and other methods of assistance in the process of implementing and ratifying this Convention,” stated Nelea Rusu.
“I’m the author of the approach to the Government of the Republic of Moldova to ratify ILO Convention No.190. No one should face violence and harassment in the workplace, either in the Republic of Moldova or elsewhere. The ratification of Convention 190 is not a ceremonial gesture, but is a proof of a commitment to work in cooperation with the Government, trade unions and civil society. This way, the Republic of Moldova joins the countries of the world in the effort to protect the employees and to ensure they have safe and respectful workplaces,” said MP Iulia Dascălu.
The ILO Convention concerning the elimination of violence and harassment in the world of work has been ratified by 23 countries.
