The drivers of motor vehicles with foreign license numbers who enter or cross the Republic of Moldova will be able to purchase the vignette (road tax) online starting with 2017. The Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure initiated the tender contest to choose the company that will design the e-vignette software. The deadline for choosing the company is October 28, IPN reports.
According to the Ministry, through the agency of this software, employees of the Customs Service, the Border Police and the National Patrolling Inspectorate will be able to check if the drivers bought the vignette. This can also be done by inspectors of the Road Traffic Monitoring Center through video surveillance cameras installed on roads.
The vignette will also be purchased through point-of-sale terminals. Therefore, the kiosks set up at customs posts will be removed.
