As a result of the increased number of road accidents, representatives of several ministries proposed a series of safety measures regarding the transportation of children to district schools. One of the proposals is that school buses should be equipped with video surveillance, a provision that would be included in the upcoming Regulation on the transportation of children, Info-Prim Neo reports. Equipping the school buses with video surveillance systems would increase the safety of transportation of children to district schools. This action would be followed by the introduction in the school program of a mandatory class of Traffic Safety. Children would have to buy and wear reflective signs. In the same regard, Moldova should follow the experience of other countries and develop a Regulation on the transportation of children to district schools, which will include the duties of drivers, of employers, of parents, of the school and of the local public administration. On this occasion, some amendments could be made to the Road Traffic Regulation, so that it would stipulate penalties and additional rules for the traffic participants in relation to the school buses. 109 buses were deployed throughout the country to transport over 7000 pupils. The state spent 90 million lei on them. Because of insufficient pupils, 69 schools have been closed over the last 5 years and district schools have been created instead.
