Victoria Belous, formerly deputy director of the State Fiscal Service, today was inaugurated as Minister of Finance in a ceremony that took place at the Presidential Palace.

“I swear to give all my strength and skill to the future of the Republic of Moldova, to respect the Constitution and the laws of the country, to defend democracy, fundamental human rights and freedoms, sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Moldova”, swore Victoria Belous.

President Maia Sandu thanked former minister Petru Rotaru for his work and Victoria Belous for accepting this challenge. “You should know that it’s a difficult position. We have high expectations about (the Ministry) maintaining funding for all those important programs, all those expenses that are important for citizens, and also in terms of transformation, especially because the Ministry of Finance leads several task forces in the process of negotiations with the EU. And we have to make significant changes to improve the quality of things”, said Sandu.

Also attending the ceremony, Prime Minister Dorin Recean declared that the Finance portfolio is extremely important. “We have to make the economy grow, we have to increase the incomes of people, and thus tax revenues, and we have to be very smart about striking a balance between funding economic development programs as well as social assistance and health care programs, and so on. Apart from that, we need to offer high-quality public services, both at the State Tax Service and at the Customs Service. The State Treasury is also very important, how we manage the money”, said the prime minister.

Victoria Belous has a law degree and a master’s degree in public administration. She has been with the State Fiscal Service since 2007 in various capacities, with the latest position being deputy director, from August 2022.

Rotaru’s resignation was announced last week, as he accepted the job of Deputy Governor of the National Bank.
