Victor Sterpu becomes European judo champion

Judoka Victor Sterpu became European senior champion. At the competition in Prague, the 21-year-old athlete scored five victories in the 73kg weight class, IPN reports.

Victor beat Belgium’s Jeroen Casse, Germany’s Igor Wandtke, Lukas Reiter of Austria and Nils Stump of Switzerland. In the final, he defeated by ippon Georgia’s Lasha Shavdatuashvili - Olympic champion in 2012 and bronze medalist of the 2016 Olympic Games.

Last year, Victor Sterpu became U20 European champion, while on November 9 this year he won gold at the U23 European Championships.

One day earlier, Denis Vieru won bronze at the Prague European Championships, in the 66 kg weight class.
