Rapid Ghidighici manager Victor Ostap was severely punished for the incident that happened after the match in which his team was beaten by Dacia Chisinau 2-4. Dissatisfied with the performance of the referees, he hit the main referee Iurie Covtun in the face, IPN reports.

In the August 22 meeting, the Competition Committee of the Moldovan Football Federation penalized Victor Ostap. He was banned from performing football activities for a five-year-period and fined 50,000 lei. Ostap committed similar disciplinary deviations in 2007 and 2012.

The manager of Rapid Ghidighici said he will not challenge this decision to the Appeals Committee as he anyway intended to withdraw from football. Owing to this conflict, director general Petru Efros also left Rapid.

Victor Ostap has financed Rapid Ghidighici since 2005. The best result achieved by the team is the qualification for the final of Moldova’s Cup last year. Ostap tried to sell the club to Italian businessman Pietro Belardelli, but the negotiations failed.
