Chisinau expects that the Transnistrian administration will realize the necessity of returning to the negotiating table as there are a series of subjects that must be negotiated. Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration and Moldova’s Chief Negotiator in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process Victor Osipov, after the meeting with the Special Representative of the Serbian OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process Ambassador Radojko Bogojević, said they hope the discussion process will return to normality in autumn, but there should be solved the problem of the Moldovan-administered Latin-scrip schools in Transnistria so as not to affect their activity. Therefore, the discussions should be resumed in all the negotiation formats, 1+1 and 5+2, IPN reports.

“I think that not many assessments are required for the population from both sides of the Nistru, for businessmen as we showed by acts that we can achieve results. The letter addressed by Tiraspol to a number of embassies working in Moldova, not yet to the Moldovan authorities, is surprising. We consider such an approach cannot have a prospect,” said Victor Osipov.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that the extended pause in the negotiation process in the 5+2 format affects the general atmosphere and generates disquiet and fear especially amid the regional situation. This pause is to the detriment of those who need their problems to be solved and this position of suspense should be reviewed so as to continue work at the negotiating table.

Radojko Bogojević said that his visit to Chisinau follows visits made to Moscow and Kiev. He will then go to Brussels and will also discuss with colleagues from Washington so as to synchronize their positions and make headway in the negotiations in the 5+2 format. There is support for continuing the negotiation process both in Kyiv and in Moscow.

“Kiev and Moscow said they support Victor Osipov’s efforts and joint effort should be made to stage a meeting in the 5+2 format before the OSCE Ministerial Conference that will take place in Belgrade in December. After I go to Brussels, I will return to Moldova to talk to the political representative of Tiraspol, where I will say that solutions can be found by dialogue. I’m glad that I found a constructive approach in the capitals I visited. The OSCE encourages this position and we want to return to the constructive approach witnessed at the start of this year,” stated Radojko Bogojević.

No negotiations in the 5+2 format have been held since the first half of last year. At the beginning of July, the Special Representative of the Serbian OSCE Chairperson-in-Office will meet with the Chief Negotiator of Transnistria Nina Shtanski in Tiraspol.
