The representative of Chisinau to the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks Victor Osipov, after an informal meeting held in Kiev on November 16, said an official meeting in the 5+2 format could take place in several months. “Given the consistency of the consultation process and the results achieved by the present Government of Moldova, we have confidence that the official talks will be resumed in a predictable future, even in several months,” Victor Osipov told Radio Moldova, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Victor Osipov said four informal meetings were planned for this year, but there was held one more meeting. “This shows we have a consistent and powerful communication and settlement process,” he stressed. The official also said that the meeting in Kiev followed a summing up conference held in the German town Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It brought together experts in different fields who discussed the results, problems, barriers and possibilities of increasing the efficiency of the efforts to build confidence between the sides. “In Kiev, special attention was paid to the recommendations made in Germany for the confidence-building working group,” Victor Osipov said. The OSCE Summit that will take place in Astana in December will discuss the frozen conflicts in South Ossetia, Abkhazia and Transnistria. “It is hard to say if the heads of state and government will reach a consensus on the initiatives to solve these conflicts, but the situation in other conflicts is more difficult. The resumption of the process aimed at resolving the Transnistrian dispute is probably the greatest success of the OSCE and this summit will have a positive effect and might open new prospects for resolving them,” Victor Osipov said.
