The European Political Community Summit held in Bulboaca was a real success for the Moldovan diplomatic service. The diplomatic openness enjoyed now by the country is an advantage, but this should be strengthened by the effort of all the authorities responsible for the implementation of reforms, the corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Victor Juc, director of the Institute of Legal, Political and Sociological Research of the Moldova State University, stated in a public debate hosted by IPN.
“It is now very important for the diplomatic service of the Republic of Moldova to strengthen the dialog initiated on the platform of the summit, but the authorities of the Republic of Moldova should also fulfill the nine conditions so as to facilitate the diplomatic service’s efforts,” stated Victor Juc.
He noted that from diplomatic viewpoint, Romania’s dialogue and openness are praiseworthy. This state is now a kind of leader for the Republic of Moldova on its European path. “It is very important for a member state of the European Union to permanently keep the problems referring to a candidate state on the EU’s agenda,” noted Victor Juc.
As to the political messages transmitted at the EPC Summit and to the difference between these and the political narrative on the platforms of the EU’s institutions, Victor Juc said the format of a broader and freer space of discussions should be kept. “I consider institutionalized bodies should not be created within the European Political Community. First of all, this is a bureaucratic apparatus and financial resources are needed for the purpose. Someone said that a statement should have been adopted there. Why was a statement necessary? It is much better when discussions are held in an informal platform rather than when institutionalized bodies and a statement are needed. The statements are most of the times not taken into consideration,” said the expert.
He noted that at internal level, better communication with society on Moldova’s European path and on integration aspects is required. Before the accession negotiations with the EU are opened, the people should know the difficulties experienced in the negotiations on those chatters and the Community acquis and should know the real situation. Some do not realize that integration cannot be swift. The objective of joining the EU by 2030 is very optimistic as the countries that became EU member states needed much more time actually.
The public debate entitled “EPC Summit - diplomatic success for the Republic of Moldova” was staged by IPN in the framework of the project “Support for European Integration by stimulating discussion in the mass media about the European Political Community (EPC) Summit”, which is supported by Soros Foundation Moldova.
