The banking fraud committed in Moldova can be estimated at 52 billion lei, economic analyst Victor Ciobanu stated in the program “Expertise hour” on Jurnal TV channel, IPN reports.

“13 billion lei was covered with 14 billion lei. Another 14 billion lei was made the people’s burden as a state debt and, together with the interest of 11 billion lei, we have 52 billion lei that, according to the exchange rate that was before the commission of the fraud, represents not about 1 billion, but almost 4 billion in foreign currency,” stated the analyst.

Victor Ciobanu said that when the money was embezzled, this sum constituted a double budget of the country and more than half of the Gross Domestic Product.

Ex-minister of finance Veaceslav Negruta considers the veritable investigation of the “theft of the billion” didn’t start and will start only when the prosecution bodies take the Kroll report into account and synchronize their actions with those taken at political level. “Because there is perfect synchronization between the political decisions, amendment of laws and creation of corridors for the funds, including those from the National Bank, to be withdrawn on the pretext of helping the depositors that were to collect money from the three banks – Banca de Economii, Unibank and Banca Sociala,” stated the former minister.
