Deputy Mayor of Chisinau Victor Chironda said that in his activity as deputy mayor until now, he has fulfilled his duties and does not have outstanding work. He did what he was to do in accordance with his responsibilities: correctly, legally and transparently. Chironda retracted after the mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban said the results of his work are very insignificant and he has a lot of overdue projects, IPN reports.
Victor Chironda told a news conference that when he was appointed, he pledged not to become involved in projects or processes that he will treat as suspicious and that will be promoted in breach of the law and decisional transparency. “When something needs to be done swiftly, the functionaries are imposed to break the procedures and the law,” stated the deputy mayor. He announced that earlier this week, the mayor signed an order to deprive him of his powers, including of the right to sign documents in the field of urbanism, architecture and constructions. “This way, he confirmed that I am inconvenient as I oppose the interests of his mates from the building sector of the city. I will ask the State Chancellery to establish the legality of this order,” he said.
Victor Chironda regretted the situation, saying he does not see a reasonable explanation for the accusations made against him. “Last week, I made known a problem and asked decision factors to become involved in the prevention of an abuse and illegality that can affect the interests of the city and its residents,” he said, noting that afterward, he started to be accused and was now deprived of power and is told to resign. He also said that he is working on a report that he will publish next week.
Natalia Ixari, spokeswoman for the mayor, has told IPN that the mayor will not comment of these statements. Earlier, Ion Ceban said deputy mayor Victor Chironda should resign or he will personally initiate the procedure for dismissing him. The mayor told a news conference that the only thing deputy mayor Chironda can reproach him for is that he made him work. He said the deputy mayor has many overdue projects, including the practical side related to parking places in Chisinau, where Victor Chironda hasn’t become involved at all. Also, he was to formulate solutions over street trading in March, but didn’t do it and deputy mayor Inga Ionesii took over this area in June. He also didn’t do anything in such areas as street repair, quality of works, rehabilitation of parks and green areas. The mayor noted he was the one who offered Victor Chironda to take up as deputy mayor.
