An event held in the Great National Assembly Square today, on the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, brought together sympathizers and families who lost their loved ones in traffic accidents.
Vladislav Cojuhari, deputy general secretary of the MoI, declared that for the Ministry of the Interior it remains a priority to contribute to building a traffic safety culture. Road safety is not just personal responsibility, but also a common one.
Alexandru Coșcodan, a parent who lost his child in a road accident, declared that life takes priority. With joint efforts, the number of road accidents can decrease. The accountability of all road users is important in this regard.
Tatiana Mihailova, member of Automobil Club Moldova, said that efforts have been made to improve road safety for 15 years. Everyone can be involved in a road accident, so it is necessary to act together. She urged traffic offenders to understand their mistakes and the sentencing system to force them to understand this constantly.
With over 1.2 million human lives lost and around 50 million people injured every year, road accidents are among the leading causes of death globally. In Moldova, according to the General Police Inspectorate, during six months of this year, 79 people died and 1049 others were injured in 881 road accidents.
The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is observed on the third Sunday of November.
