The victims of domestic violence and sexual violence can call the trustline of the International Center “La Strada” for Women and Girls 0 8008 8008 to receive free advice over the phone. The women who need protection are offered temporary accommodation, psychological assistance and legal aid.

Contacted by IPN for details, director of the Center for Victims of Domestic Violence “Arianda” Simion Sârbu said the woman who goes to the center is accommodated in a separate room, is opened a bank account and is transferred a sum of money for food. While at the center, these women receive the assistance of a psychologist, social assistant and legal adviser.

When the woman seeks aid, she is not asked to show any document. “First of all, we save the woman from acts of violence. Later, we get in touch with the local social worker and inform this that the woman is at the center,” stated the director.

The women can stay at “Arianda” Centered for three months. If they do not manage to find a safe place to stay, they can stay for three more months there.

The women who go to the center are usually married women aged between 20 and 30. The main goal of the institution is for the abuser to no longer commit acts of violence against the victim.

The Mother’s Center for “Pro-Femina” offers temporary accommodation for the mother and child, together with psychological and medical assistance. “The victims of violence must write an application and will be then able to stay here for six months,” stated the Center’s director Liliana Buza.

“We need a placement order, a document showing the identity of the mother and child. If the mother suffers from particular diseases, this should also present a medical certificate,” said Mihaela Belei, program coordinator of the Mother’s Center “In the Mother’s Arms” that was founded by the Social Mission “Diaconia”. In some of the cases, they are offered a training program or the possibility of enrolling the child at an education institution. “We are dealing with the social and family reintegration of the mother,” stated Mihaela Belei.

According to press officer of the International Center “La Strada” Ana Trifan, since the start of 2022, their trustline has recorded 44 calls and 24 complaints about different cases of domestic violence.
